No verdict as deliberations continue in Flaco trial; Jurors order dinner
UTICA - Deliberations have continued for more than 24 hours in the trial of the man accused of shooting Officer Thomas Lindsey to death.
The jury has made several requests throughout today, including viewing videotaped interviews of Wesley Molina-Cirino, also known as "Flaco," by police, and a read-back of the testimony from Sammy Rivera - the man Lindsey pulled over just before he was shot back in April. Still no unanimous decision from the jury. They have been deliberating since just after lunch time yesterday and have since made several requests of the judge. Those requests have included seeing all the photographs that were in evidence, along with viewing the videotape of interviews police had with Wesley Molina-Cirino on June 6. Later in the afternoon, the jury had asked to have the testimony of Sammy Rivera read back to them as well. Rivera is considered by many to be the prosecution's star witness, as he is the one in the car that Officer Lindsey pulled over just before Lindsey was shot. Rivera claims to have seen Cirino holding the gun after Officer Lindsey fell to the ground that night. Jurors delivered a note to the judge this afternoon saying that "X amount of them thought Cirino was guilty, and X amount felt he was not guilty," and that the shadow of a doubt played a big role in those opinions. The judge then brought the jurors back in and read them the Allen Charge, which means basically that he asked them to not give up their strong convictions, but to deliberate some more and try and come back with a unanimous decision. |
