Officer Thomas Lindsey - Killed in the Line of Duty

Police continue looking into leads in the Thomas Lindsey murder investigation.  The Utica Police Officer was killed on April 12th during a traffic stop in Cornhill.  Officials held a news conference this morning to update their investigation.  Here are the headlines from today:

  Monday's Press Conference

--Pylman says police have left Puerto Rico.  The suspect they were talking with there, Jose Cirino, has been cooperating with police.  He has not been arrested and is free today.  Pylman did not call him a suspect today but says police may want to talk with again in the future.  Police also spoke with a second person while in Puerto Rico.  Pylman did not call him a suspect.  Two Utica Police Officer and two U.S. Marshall's flew to Puerto Rico on Friday.  Pylman called the trip a good lead which needed to be checked.

--District Attorney Scott McNamara says the other person police called a suspect, Sammy Rivera, is still in custody.  McNamara said, "He is cooperating a lot."  Rivera is being held on charges related to the traffic stop as well as drug charges.

--McNamara would not comment on whether they found a man seen running from the scene the night of the shooting.  Last week police said they were looking for a person wearing a white hoodie.

--McNamara says hundreds of leads are coming in and being followed up.

--Chief Pylman opened the press conference by talking about a two-hour meeting Monday morning with the Utica Police Investigators, District Attorney Scott McNamara and his staff and other agencies assisting in the investigation.

Police expect to hold their next news conference on Wednesday.



There will be a press conference today at 11am in the Common Council's Chambers at Utica City Hall to give an update on current status of the investigation into the death of Officer Thomas Lindsey.  Utica Police Chief C. Allen Pylman will address the media and take questions.
