UTICA – Baseball fans and law enforcement have a reason to be excited about the area’s new baseball league.

The New York State League announced Monday morning at Murnane Field in Utica that it plans to honor fallen Utica police officer Thomas Lindsey as well as New Hartford officer Joseph Corr on opening day, July 3.

The day also serves as a fundraiser for the families of both officers. League officials say it’s important to recognize both men for their sacrifices and celebrate their lives through America’s pastime.

League officials said tickets for all law enforcement officials will be free, and there will be fireworks among other events on July 3.
