Chandelier begins step-by-step installation as Stanley Theatre prepares for re-opening

UTICA - Give them the stage, they'll give you the world. And in addition to that, the worlds largest chandelier! Meyda Tiffany spent the day at the Stanley Theater installing a massive work of art.

A 6,000 pound metal and acrylic chandelier will be raised to the ceiling of the Stanley on Tuesday, but because of its size, the fixture was delivered in 24 pieces.

Today, Meyda tackled the puzzle that is designed to match the decor of the newly renovated theater.

"We had our designers," said Bob Cohen, president of Meyda Lighting. "Initially, Nancy Parker came to the Stanley. She had some ideas, she reviewed them with Tony Santucci who is also a designer and engineer...they worked on it jointly."

Meyda Lighting doesn't have an instructional manual for this one. It's custom fit to make history. Inside the frame will hang a plaque with everyones name that helped fabricate the structure.

Something you won't find, however, is instructions to change the LED light bulbs.

"This fixture will not need to be re-lamped," said Cohen. "No light bulbs will need to be changed for 50 years. So when they need to change the light bulbs, they'll have to call my grandchildren to figure out what they're gonna do to change the light bulbs."
