Dressing rooms one part of Stanley renovations that performers appreciate most

By By PAT BAILEY

UTICA - That new stage is certainly state of the art, but if the performers cant get dressed on time to be there, there is no show. That's why among the renovation project was the construction of dozens of new dressing rooms.

It may not look like much to the average person, but it mans the world to performers - a toilet, a sink, but most importantly a shower. It's just one of several new, and large dressing rooms for performers just beyond the stage doors.

"How many we got here," Ron Thiele, executive director for the Stanley Center for the Arts began counting space. "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. You could put ten people in easy and not be tripping over each other."

But that isn't all that's new. Just a short walk up the stairs, and there is more space for performers. But perhaps the best new feature performers will see is another common set of household devices - a washer and dryer

"This is one of the things that every show is dying for," Thiele said.

He said not many theaters around the country have them, and performers appreciate them. And with one more quick walk up the stairs, the final installment is a brand-new, small kitchen - something officials say will get a lot of use.

"We decided to make this place as amenable to what goes on here," Thiele said. "Because we have so many events that are in the lobbies, or parties, and they come in and want catering as well. It's another way to really use the building."
