UTICA - The Stanley Theater is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation. Now, the time has come to update the marquee. And that has to be done out of state.

There have to be alot of puzzled pigeons atop the Stanley marquee wondering who are all these noisy interlopers. They're contractors...and they've been dismantling the marquee all morning.

There' s a crane up ready to take down a side panel, and when they do, they' ll load it onto a flatbed which is how it'll be transported to Ohio for refurbishing and revamping.

The new marquee will look very different from the current one in one major respect: the old black lettering on the white side panels will be gone.

In its place will be a multi-colored led or light emitting diode display.

Theater Manager John Faust looks at it not as a goodbye to the old nostalgic marquee, but as a hello to a much more exciting way of touting Stanley shows, and of saying happy birthday to grandma and grandpa as well.

The marquee will be back on sometime in November, and could be its longest absence. It was down in 1980 for a few months for some refurbishing.

All the Stanley renovations will be complete by December 31 and its grand reopening will be with the show, "The Producers" on January 20.
