NY Firefighters: "Help from Utica FD following 9-11 was invaluable"

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local elected officials and members of law enforcement and emergency responders gathered at Mohawk Valley Community College on Friday for a formal 9-11 ceremony.

The college is one of 30 locations across the state with artifacts from the 2001 attacks. Members of New York City Fire and Police Departments were in attendance and expressed their gratitude to the local departments who came down immediately following the attacks.

"Utica Fire Department was fantastic," said Robert Ungar, Spokesperson for the Uniformed Firefighters Association in New York City. "They brought us infrared cameras to search for victims. I can't tell you how invaluable their assistance was and appreciative to Chief Brooks and the Fire Department."

Some of the artifacts on display at MVCC include a piece of metal from one of the World Trade Center towers and a steel girder with crosses cut into it by metal workers.

The free exhibit will be up until the end of the month.
