WKTV's "United We Stand" Telethon

By ANDREW DONOVAN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - On September 14, 2001, NEWSChannel 2 presented the "United We Stand" Telethon to offer our local support to those directly affected by the 9-11 Terror Attacks.

In the days following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, NBC News took over much of the airways with national coverage. When NEWSChannel 2 fully returned to the air, we were proud to broadcast the telethon in conjunction with the United Way.

In NEWSChannel 2's most successful telethon ever, a grand total of nearly $1 million was raised. That money went directly to the efforts at the World Trade Center Site in New York City.

In the archive clip, you will see NEWSChannel 2's Vic Vetters and Joleen Ferris anchor our telethon coverage. Former Utica Mayor Tim Julian and Fire Chief Russell Brooks both made appearances.
