Townsend officially announces run for Oneida County Sheriff
CLINTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Assemblyman David Townsend of Sylvan Beach has officially announced that he is, in fact, running for the position of Oneida County Sheriff.
Townsend, who serves the 115th district in the New York State Assembly, is now among a total of six people seeking the office being vacated by current Oneida County Sheriff Dan Middaugh.
Townsend made the announcement Friday morning on Robinson Road in Clinton.
Townsend said he considers himself perfect for the position, previously working for the State Police and as an undercover narcotiocs officer with the Oneida County Sheriff's Department before being elected to the Assembly.
