UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneida County Democratic Committee has chosen Anthony Brindisi as its candidate for the 116th District Assembly seat. Brindisi is a member of the Utica City School Board and a local attorney.

The committee unanimously voted for Brindisi. The other candidates included retired State Trooper Maynard Cosnett and Rome Democratic Committee Chairman Paul Grande.

Assemblywoman Roann Destito will leave the 116th seat vacant when she takes the position of Commissioner of the State Office of General Services. A special election will take place 80 days after Destito is confirmed to her new position.

The Republicans have not announced an official candidate, although many people have expressed an interest in running, including former Utica Mayor Tim Julian.
