UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The City of Utica will now have a safeguard against corruption, with the re-establishment of the city's ethics board.
The committee will act on behalf of citizens to investigate wrongdoings in governmental offices as well as government-regulated municipalities, such as the school board. Citizens will be able to file complaints by filling out a form on the city's website.
The five-member committee hopes this direct communication will facilitate better community oversight.
"Previous to this, you had to go to your local councilman or your mayor or some people and whatever they said went," said Ethics Board Member Ron Gaetano. "Now we're simply checking with them and saying, well maybe it wasn't clear, let's make sure that the plan is truly answered."
Gaetano says that if you do submit a complaint, someone will get back to you and your question will not go unanswered.
