UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - NEWSChannel 2 is projecting that Congressman Richard Hanna will win the Republican primary race for the newly-drawn 22nd Congressional District.

With all of the precincts reporting across the eight-country district, Hanna (R-Barneveld) has a 71% to 29% lead over challenger Michael Kicinski (R-Earlville).

The 22nd district includes the cities of Utica in Oneida County and Binghamton in Broome County, two population centers where Hanna won overwhelmingly. The district also spans across Herkimer, Madison, Chenango, Oswego, Cortland and Tioga Counties.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna said, "I'm grateful for everyone who turned out today to cast a vote in this primary election. I'm thankful for the time and energy of all those who supported this campaign. A great people, state and country solve their problems in their own time; our time is now. I look forward to continuing our important work in Washington for the people of upstate New York. We have many needs and there is nothing more important than rebuilding our communities and once again making upstate New York a place where people can thrive."

Hanna will face Democratic challenger Dan Lamb in the November general election.
