Morehouse wins Utica Comptroller race
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It may have been an "off-year" election, however, for the much anticipated Utica Comptroller race, it certainly didn't show.
Arguably, the area's biggest race of the year concluded, Tuesday night, with Bill Morehouse winning by a by a narrow margin of 2,874 to 2,401 votes (54%-46%).
Morehouse was running on the Independence ticket, after losing to opponent Jim Zecca in the Democratic Primary in September.
While Zecca earned the nomination from the party, Morehouse received an endorsement from Utica Mayor Robert M. Palmieri a few weeks ago.
Following the results, Morehouse and his campaign team celebrated the win, and reflected upon what it means moving forward.
NEWSChannel 2's Anna Meiler was at Morehouse's election headquarters and spoke to Morehouse after the results came in.
"It feels great, but this was never about Bill Morehouse, this was always about the City of Utica," said Morehouse. "The City of Utica, the greatest city in the world. This is what it is all about."
The Comptroller's main responsibility while in office is to handle the City of Utica's finances, something that Morehouse plans to jump right into when he begins his term.
