$6 million fund balance for Oneida County

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - While its county seat, the City of Utica, had to raid its fund balances in order to pay its bills, Oneida County boasted a very healthy fund balance, officials said on Thursday.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said he credits his and his staff's commitment to fiscal stability to achieving that $6 million fund balance. However, he points out that just because there's a balance in the savings account, doesn't mean the county can go on a spending spree.

"This is not an open checkbook now to increase spending," Picente said. "It is not the automatic restoration of programs. It needs to be maintained."

The county executive is asking the Board of Legislators to pass five measures at their May 9 meeting that would ensure continued fiscal stability.
