Maciol "upbeat" while awaiting sheriff race results

DECISION 2010 (WKTV) - The race for Oneida County Sheriff is still too close to call.

So far, Democrat Rob Maciol is leading Republican David Townsend by a few thousand votes, 52 to 48 percent.

This has been a heated race.. and by all accounts-- it still is. Despite that, Maciol told NEWSChannel 2 he remains upbeat.

"The areas where we needed to be strong we were very strong," Maciol said."There are still 17 districts out there that haven't reported yet from what we understand. Again they're scattered around and we feel that we're going to remain strong with a majority of those 17 districts. So (if) we keep up the same pace we had last night, we'll be in good shape."

Maciol hopes to know exactly what title to put on his desk nameplate by late next week:

While military ballots have until November 24th to arrive at statewide board of elections, absentee ballots have to be in by Tuesday.

Townsend did not return NEWSChannel 2's calls Wednesday morning.
