James Seward wins Republican Primary for 51st State Senate
ONEONTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - NEWSChannel 2 projects that incumbent James Seward will win the Republican Primary for the 51st State Senate seat. Seward beat out challenger and political newcomer James Blake. Senator Seward addressed an excited crowd at campaign headquarters in Oneonta saying, “I am thrilled with the victory, the tremendous level of support – especially in new portions of the district - and look forward to a second win on November 6th.” Seward went on to thank his family and supporters and said he is excited about recent successes in Albany and is ready to continue to lead New York forward. “New York state is moving in the right direction. I have played a leading role in cutting state spending, reducing taxes and creating a job growth environment and am ready to continue the work. The enthusiastic and overwhelming primary day support is proof positive that the voters of the 51st district appreciate the job I am doing and are firmly in my corner moving forward, ” Seward said. Seward will represent the Republican Party in the general election in November. His Democratic challenger is Howard Leib, a lawyer from Ithaca. Polls will be open on November 6.
