VVS, Worcester residents vote down school budgets

By ANDREW DONOVAN

(WKTV) - Voters in the VVS School District in Oneida County and Worcester School District in Otsego County have defeated their school district's budgets Tuesday night.

In the VVS District, 781 opposed the budget versus only 466 people in support of the plan. Several job eliminations were proposed along with a tax levy increase of 5.89%.

In Worcester, 272 voters said no, while only 172 voters approved of the spending plan. The budget carried a tax levy increase of 2.6%.

School districts with defeated budgets have three options. School officials can put the same budget up for vote again, they can alter the budget and that up for a vote or the Board of Education can automatically put a contingency budget plan into place.
