UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Several people in Oneida County still have to hope that, when they turn on their faucets, water comes out. Living with a well can be an uncertain, costly arrangement.

State lawmakers, local elected leaders and water experts met at the NY State Office Building Wednesday morning to talk about how to get municipal water to everyone in Oneida County who wants it.

"One of the issues that we face certainly in my district and across the county is that a number of people are still working off well water. They're not able to wash their clothes properly, they don't have adequate drinking water, so really we want to begin the discussion with some of the water producers as to how we can get water to these folks," says Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, who has constituents on well water in Whitestown.

Among the experts at the discussion, water authority Executive Director Patrick Becher and a water expert from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Brindisi says it's important to explore ways to get residents on municipal water systems without those taxpayers carrying the heavy cost burden. Senators Joseph Griffo and David Valesky also were part of the discussion.
