Utica Memorial Auditorium receives $2 million for restorations
UTICA, N.Y. - Two million dollars is heading to the Utica Memorial Auditorium for updates, according to State Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi. The funding was allocated in the 2013-14 State Budget. "The Aud is still the choice venue for many of our area's indoor sporting and community events," said Griffo. "Renovation and improvements to the facility are still necessary to keep it as an attractive host facility for the Mohawk Valley." "With this funding, we can transform The Aud and boost local economic development," Assemblymember Brindisi said. "Improving and investing in The Aud will help the venue live up to its full potential as a key driver of our economy's revitalization effort, creating quality jobs and an exciting place for our families to enjoy." Both the Senator and Assemblymember said that they plan on working to try and secure additional funds for the Aud in an effort to make it more marketable for larger attractions. The Aud project is part of a bigger renewal effort in downtown Utica, tying into the 120-acre canal remediation site project at Harbor Point. These projects will help transform the landscape in downtown Utica, making the area a more appealing place for families and businesses to grow.
