Cuomo holds public swearing in as governor

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is planning a brief public ceremony as he begins his four-year term as the state's 56th governor.

Cuomo was sworn in Friday night in a private family ceremony at the executive mansion with his father, former Governor Mario Cuomo, at his side.

Andrew Cuomo planed a working day beginning with an 8:30 a.m. cabinet meeting. He says the state's fiscal crisis is too severe for an elaborate inauguration.

Saturday's inauguration was in a small reception parlor at the Capitol called the War Room for its murals of battles.

The state is facing a deficit of as much as $1 billion and a projected deficit of about $10 billion in the budget due April 1.
