HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Herkimer County lawmakers learned more Wednesday about how Governor Andrew Cuomo's budget affects them.

New York Deputy Secretary of State for Local Government Dede Scozzafava gave a power point presentation at Herkimer County Community College on Wednesday.

Medicaid is one of the biggest concerns for the county, taking up 55 percent of its budget.

Governor Cuomo is considering removing a cap that was placed on Medicaid in 2005, which would save Herkimer County taxpayers nearly $350,000.

There is something in the budget that concerns County Administrator Jim Wallace, though - it involves possibly taking away administrative funds from Medicaid - and that could cause some problems for the county.

"We've been assured it's not happening, but the way we read the budget, it is in there," Wallace said. "So that would be a tremendous concern for us and we would be getting the $343,000 and then we would probably be taking a 250, $300,000 hit on the other hand."

Scozzafava says she plans to take these concerns back to Albany and the governor.
