22nd Congressional District candidates make stop in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The two candidates running for the newly created 22nd Congressional District made a stop at the New Hartford Senior Center on Wednesday.

Congressman Richard Hanna and Challenger Dan Lamb each made pitches in an effort to convince residents to vote for them on election day. After that, audience members got a chance to ask questions, with one of the hot topics being Medicare.

"I am for preserving the traditional benefits of the Medicare program," Lamb said. "It's a good program. It actually costs less than private sector insurance and the growth and expense in Medicare is far below private sector health insurance."

"We are interested in keeping it as it is and finding those instances where private companies who also provide insurance can add to the process and make it less expensive," Congressman Hanna said. "We need to find a way to make it sustainable."

Each candidate also spent time addressing individual concerns with residents at the center.
