Cardillo: I'm in this until the end
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica mayoral candidate on Tuesday announced that he is in the race until the end, in spite of the fact that his major party primary ended in defeat.
Conservative and Independence party candidate Robert Cardillo had the Republican Party endorsement, but lost the primary. On Tuesday, though, Cardillo says he feels he is entering the November race in a pretty enviable position.
"I'm on two lines; my opponents are only on one line," Cardillo said. "So maybe I look at it from a positive point of view. I've got two lines, they've got one. So I really don't think it's an issue, especially with five people in the race."
Cardillo says the large, by many accounts unprecedented, field of five candidates offers voters a unique opportunity to make a choice based on a broad exchange of ideas.
Cardillo faces off in November against Republican Michael Cerminaro, Green Party candidate Robert Clemente, Democrat Robert Palmieri and Rainbow Party candidate Ernie Sanita.
Many of the candidates will be taking part in a forum Tuesday night at the Loretto Center in Utica.
