Roefaro appoints Brian Thomas to lead office of Economic Development

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Brian Thomas was appointed as the acting action Commissioner of Economic Development for the City of Utica, Mayor David Roefaro announced Friday afternoon.

Thomas will replace outgoing Commission Randy Soggs who resigned as of July 1 due to his private practice.

Roefaro had previously considered appointing an outside agency to handle the department such as Mohawk Valley Edge or the Utica Municipal Housing Authority. Officials from both organizations were interviewed.

Roefaro said he decided on Thomas to keep the continuity of the Economic Development Office.

Thomas previously worked for Utica City Hall, as the City Urban Planning Director.
