UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Former Oneida County Legislator Larry Tanoury Jr. announced Thursday night that he will run for the 2nd ward common council seat in the city of Utica.

Tanoury served one term on the County Board of Legislators, representing the 25th District. The democrat owns an advertising and consulting company, Acumen Media, in Utica. Tanoury says he wants the chance to advocate for some changes in West Utica.

Right now the 2nd ward seat is filled by James Zecca. Zecca says he is supportive of Tanoury's decision to run.

"Larry has the passion and experience with inner-city issues that's needed in West Utica. So, I'm confident that I'm leaving the district in good hands and I'll be able to work very closely with Larry as the new district representative," Zecca said.

Zecca will run for Common Council President this fall.

So far no Republicans have announced intentions to run for the 2nd Ward.
