Utica Councilors form summit to ensure city's involvement in rail line

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Will an upscale train soon be running from New York City to Lake Placid with a stop in the City of Utica?

Two Utica Common Council members held a press conference on Monday to announce a meeting they have set up regarding the issue.

First Ward Councilman Frank Vescera and Councillor at Large Jim Zecca say they are excited to hear that a developer from Chicago wants to get that upscale train operation up and running.

The two Utica legislators have formed an initiative called "The Utica Rail Summit," which will hold its first meeting later this month.

"And we're obviously going to have the folks from the railroad, from private companies, from private sector, definitely the public has to be involved with this," Vescera said.

The first meeting of the Utica Rail Summit is set for Tuesday, November 27 at Utica's City Hall.
