Utica Mayor Palmieri appoints new Chief of Staff

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri has announced the appointment of a new chief of staff.

According to a news release from the mayor's office on Thursday, Charles "Sonny" Greco will replace Jim Murphy as Chief of Staff.

Greco, 27, is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He has previously served as Mohawk Valley Regional Representative for Governor Andrew Cuomo's Administration.

"I'm happy to announce that Sonny Greco will join my Administration and serve as Chief of Staff. Since the day I took office, Sonny has been a reliable partner and great asset to the City of Utica," Palmieri said. "sonny's background, experience and record of performance make him exceptionally qualified to serve in this capacity."

"It is a true honor and privilege to serve residents of Utica and I am humbled by the Mayor's confidence in me," Greco said. "While the decision to leave the Governor's office was difficult, I'm very excited to join Mayor Palmieri's team and help build on the progress his Administration has made for the City."

Greco has served in the Cuomo Administration since 2011, representing the six-county Mohawk Valley region as well as worked as a Staff Assistant and Caseworker/Field Representative in former Congressman Michael Arcuri's Utica and Washington, DC offices.

The mayor's office says Greco will be paid an annual salary of $55,000.
