UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The City of Utica's Buckley Pool in East Utica re-opened on Tuesday, following a pump break three weeks ago.
It was originally feared that the pool might have to close for the remainder of the summer, until a large donation from within the community and a matching grant from The Community Foundation helped to get the pool back open.
The repairs came with a price tag of $15,000 and were delayed due to a needed part having to be delivered from out of state.
The kids couldn't be happier as the gates to the pool once again re-opened.
"A lot of the kids were excited to get back in the pool, especially the East Utica kids," said Lifeguard Tom DeBernardis. "They're really excited today because they finally have a chance to come back and have something nice to do during the day."
The pool will remain open for two more weeks this summer season, and while it was closed, the kids were able to visit the city's two other pools.
