Bells to ring Monday for victims of Herkimer County shootings

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Bells will ring Monday in honor of those who lost their lives in last week's tragic shootings and those who came to their aid.

The Herkimer County Legislature, has passed a resolution In Memoriam and Recognition of the tragic events of March 13, 2013 in the Villages of Mohawk and Herkimer, to encourage all the residents of Herkimer County to recognize Monday, March 25, 2013, as a "COUNTY-WIDE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE" to offer thoughts of healing and prayer to the victims and recognize and express gratitude to all the responders to this incident.

Vincent J. Bono, Chairman of the County Legislature, stated "At 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013, the Historic County Courthouse bell will toll as we pause to help one another mourn and begin the healing process. Our hearts and prayers go out to families and friends of the victims."

Chairman Bono encourages all Herkimer County churches to join in this recognition by tolling their bells.

Chairman Bono closed by saying "I would like to publicly thank each and every first responder and all the law enforcement agencies that took part in the operations that day. Your bravery and call to public duty are greatly appreciated and reassuring to our community in these troubled times."
