Broken insulator on utility pole causes power outage for more than 1,400 in Herkimer County

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - More than 1,400 homes in Herkimer County were without power for a portion of Wednesday afternoon due to a broken insulator on a utility pole.
National Grid reported 1,413 power outages in German Flatts, Columbia, Ilion, Herkimer and Litchfield beginning around 2:30 p.m. On Wednesday.
According to officials with the company, the outage was caused by a broken insulator on a pole located on Route 5 in Schuyler.
New York State Police and other officials directed traffic in some areas until the electricity was restored about an hour or so later.
