Main phone line for Town of Westford severed; emergency steps being taken
By WKTV News

WESTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A broken phone line has left a majority of residents in an Otsego County town without land lines, but Emergency Service personnel are working to give them a place to report emergencies until it can be fixed.

According to Otsego County Emergency Services, at roughly 7:30 p.m. on November 11, the main phone line that provides service to the Town of Westford was severed after a tractor trailer pulling out of Huntington Trucking took the wires down. The damage to this line has left the majority of the 600 residents of the Town of Westford without phone service, including the ability to call 911 in the event of an emergency.

Verizon crews have been contacted, but at this time there is no estimated restoration time.

The Westford Fire Station located at 1812 County Highway 34 will be staffed for residents to report emergencies until restoration efforts are completed.

Officials say this outage does not affect cell phone service in this area and cellular phones may be used to report an emergency by dialing 911.
