LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Carthage man has turned himself in following a hit and run accident involving an Amish Buggy last week.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Steven J. Waite, 50 was traveling northbound on State Route 12 in Lowville when he struck an Amish Buggy and left the scene Thursday, November 29.

The buggy was extensively damaged, but the husband and wife inside were uninjured, authorities said.

Waite was issued uniform traffic tickets for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury to an animal, speed not reasonable and prudent, following too closely, and failure to use due care when approaching a horse.

Authorities say he will answer the charges in the Town of Lowville Court at a later date.

Deputies said they would like to acknowledge the individuals who contacted the Sheriff's Office and assisted with the investigation.
