New notification system for victims of domestic violence
By LUKE TUBIA

Victims of domestic violence now have a chance to feel a little safer.

At the end of 2012, the U.S. Department of Justice implemented the Statewide Automated Victim and Information Notification, otherwise known as SAVIN-NY PROGRAM.

The program gives victims of domestic violence in New York State notifications when their offender has been served with an order of protection.

The notifications can be delivered via phone call, text message, e-mail, or fax.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol is excited to have another tool to help protect domestic violence victims.
