Westmoreland home destroyed by fire
WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - A home in Westmoreland is a total loss following a fire late Thursday night.
The fire broke out around 11 p.m. on Thursday at the home on Merriman Road and multiple crews responded to find smoke and flames visible upon arrival. The fire was so intense that officials had to shut down parts of Route 233 in order to allow trucks to get to the home.
The home belonged to George Joseph, the owner of Northstar Orchards in Westmoreland, which is not far from the home. Joseph is also the Majority Leader of the Oneida County Board of Legislators.
No one was injured and while an official cause has not yet been determined, the Westmoreland Fire Chief says they believe it began in the area of the chimney.
