Police seeking witnesses to Thursday accident in New Hartford

By WKTV News

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford Police are asking anyone with information on an early Thursday morning accident that injured an Old Forge woman to come forward.

Officers responded to the intersection of Burrstone Road and Notre Dame Lane shortly before 5 a.m. on Thursday for a two-car motor vehicle crash.

According to Patrolman Andrew Allen, Carmen G. Stefaniak, 48 of Frankfort was driving west on Burrstone Road and attempted a right turn into the driveway of St. Luke's Hospital, when her vehicle was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by Debra J. Bolton, 53, of Old Forge. Police said Bolton's vehicle was traveling west on Burrstone Road behind Stefaniak's vehicle.

Police said the force of the collision caused Stefaniak's vehicle to skid sideways and overturn several times before striking a sign post and coming to rest in a grassy area. Bolton complained of neck and chest pain and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Stefaniak was evaluated on scene and refused medical transport, police said.

No summonses have been issued at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed the incident to contact the New Hartford Police Department at (315) 724-7111.

The New Hartford Police Department was assisted on scene by the Utica Police Department, Utica Fire Department and Edward's Ambulance.
