CLAY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist has been injured after he and another biker encountered two deer on an interstate highway in Clay.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office tells local media outlets that 26-year-old Charles Early of Rome was exiting Interstate 81 around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday just north of Syracuse when a deer ran in front of him, causing him to crash his motorcycle.

Deputies say 50-year-old Geoffrey Shulkun of Rome was riding behind Early when a deer ran into the side of Shulkun's motorcycle. Shulkun was able to maintain control of his bike and wasn't injured.

Early was thrown from his motorcycle. Police say he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
