UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two fires in the City of Utica, one on Warren Street on Friday night and the other on Steuben Street early Saturday morning, have been deemed incendiary, and investigations are now underway.

According to Utica Assistant Fire Chief George Clark, crews were called to a fire around 10:36 p.m. Friday night at 1217 Warren Street and found smoke coming from the first floor of the home upon arrival. Once inside, fire crews found a mattress on fire in a bedroom on the first floor of the vacant apartment and the fire was under control in roughly ten minutes. Damage was confined to the mattress and the first floor bedroom, officials said. The cause of the fire has been determined to be incendiary and is under investigation, Clark said.

Around 2:42 a.m. Saturday morning, crews were called to 1400 Steuben Street and found smoke and fire coming from the rear of the building, near the corner of Hobart Street. Extensive damage occurred to the rear of the structure on the first and second floor, to both the interior and exterior walls and an entrance way, Assistant Chief Clark said. Crews brought the fire under control in roughly an hour, but remained on location throughout the night.

Officials say this fire has also been determined to be incendiary and is under investigation.
