Woman airlifted after accident on Skaneateles Turnpike

A woman was airlifted to the hospital after a car accident on the Skaneateles Turnpike Tuesday morning.

The accident happened just before 10 a.m. on the Turnpike near Route 8, about 4 miles outside of Brookfield.

According to authorities at the scene, a woman was driving down the turnpike when she lost control of her vehicle and went off the road and through some trees. The car ended up upside down and backwards when it came to rest in the woods, authorities said.

She was airlifted to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica after being extricated from the vehicle.

Authorities at the scene said they did not believe her injuries to be life threatening, adding that she was conscious when she left.
