KIRKLAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two cats were killed in a fire in the Town of Kirkland on Wednesday afternoon and fire officials are still looking into a cause.

Crews from multiple fire departments responded to the home on Route 12B in Kirkland around 11:15 a.m. with first arriving fire crews reporting a thick, heavy smoke pouring out of the structure.

Clinton, Clark Mills, and Deansboro Fire Departments were called to the scene and an air van was requested from the Maynard Fire Department and the fire was deemed under control shortly before Noon.

Fire Chief Mark Young says the damage was contained to the back of the home in two rooms, but there is smoke damage throughout the house.

No one was home at the time of the fire and officials say someone driving by had spotted the smoke and called 911.
