By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The cause of an early Thursday morning fire on Plant Street in the City of Utica remains under investigation, although officials say no one was at home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters responded to 624 Plant Street around 3:31 a.m. on Thursday to find smoke and fire coming from the side of the structure, which officials say was owned by Miguel Albarran. The structure was vacant and under renovation at the time of the fire, officials said.

Firefighters were able to confine and extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the interior and an investigation revealed the fire started on the first floor bathroom and continued to the exterior portion of the structure and also to the second floor bathroom, causing a partial collapse of the bathroom floor.

No firefighters were injured while fighting the fire, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
