MARSHALL, N.Y. (WKTV) - Authorities say a Utica couple suffered non life-threatening injuries after they crashed their motorcycles on State Route 315 in the Town of Marshall on Tuesday evening.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Shelly Schultz and Kevin Schultz, both 52, along with their 19 year old son, Jacob Schultz, were traveling South on Route 315 on their motorcycles at around 7 p.m.

Authorities say Shelly Schultz was leading the way on her 2008 Honda Shadow when she failed to negotiate a curve and crashed onto the roadway. She was ejected and she and her motorcycle skidded to a stop a short distance away.

Kevin Schultz attempted to avoid the crash in front of him and laid his bike down on the roadway to avoid a collision with his wife, Sheriff's Deputies said. Schultz's 1994 Suzuki skidded on the roadway until it struck the guide rail on the west shoulder of the road and landed in a stream.

Authorities say that Jacob Schultz was able to maneuver his way around his mother and father and came to a stop safely before calling 911 to report the crash.

Members from the Waterville Fire Department, Deansboro Fire Department, Waterville Ambulance and Oriskany Falls Ambulance responded to the scene to care for the injured riders. Shelly Schultz was transported by Oriskany Falls Ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital for injuries to her chest and arms and Kevin Schultz was transported by Waterville Ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital for a broken leg and injuries to his shoulder.

Shelly Schultz was issued a traffic summons for failing to reduce speed at a curve and she will appear in the Town of Marshall Court on a later date.

Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police as well as fire police from both Waterville Fire Department and Deansboro Fire Department.
