Firefighters gather at Turning Stone to discuss training, tactics, equipment

By ANDREW DONOVAN

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The 2013 Fire Expo, sponsored by the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs took place Saturday at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

There were training sessions and equipment on display, but as Past President of the organization Bob Holley says, a lot of learning can be done by just getting together with each other.

"The networking that goes on between departments is fantastic," Holley said. "The expertise that can be passed from older members to younger members also works between departments. No two departments operate the same way and we're here to learn new and inventive ways of doing things."

More than seventy percent of fire departments in New York State are volunteer-based and Holley says it is beneficial for departments to meet members of other departments, both volunteer and professional.
