GERMAN FLATTS, N.Y. (WKTV) - It's been in the planning stages for years, and on Friday, it made its long-awaited debut.
Officials with the Village of Ilion, State Department of Transportation and the Ilion School District gathered Friday for a ribbon cutting on the new Frederick Street bridge over Steele Creek.
The new bridge eliminates the narrow, decaying Philip Street bridge and is expected to ease school-day traffic snarls at the intersection of Otsego, John and Philip Streets.
While the ribbon cutting was Friday, no vehicles will be allowed on the new bridge until Monday.
