Local Athletes Earn National College Accolades

D3Hoops.com Names Golembiowski All-East Region Rookie of the Year
MARCY, NY – Freshman forward Dave Golembiowski (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) of the SUNYIT men’s basketball team was recently named the D3hoops.com All-East Region Rookie of the Year for 2007-2008.
Golembiowski, who earlier this season was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, averaged 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, hit 72 three-pointers, and blocked 36 shots this season. He finished in the Top 5 in the 12-team SUNYAC in scoring, three-pointers and blocks, and ended up 43rd in the country in three-pointers per game.
The D3hoops East Region consists of 38 institutions sponsoring men’s basketball including all teams from the SUNYAC (12), the Empire 8 Conference (9), the Liberty League (8), two teams from the powerful University Athletic Association (NYU, Rochester), and a mix of seven teams from the North Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (NEAC), the Skyline Conference, and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
HCCC Bowlers Named Academic All-Americans by National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association
Herkimer, NY— Five members of Herkimer County Community College’s bowling team have been named Academic All-Americans by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association. They are Sara Abele, Little Falls; Mike Bellino, Frankfort; Sara Caruso, Utica; Melissa Lenaghen, Utica; and Courtney Miller, Watson.
The 2007-08 women’s bowling team placed third at Regionals and fourth at Nationals, while the men’s team placed fifth at Regionals and sixth at Nationals.
