LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. -- What started as a close game ended up as a blowout, as Ilion pulled away from Little Falls to win 14-4, sweeping the best-of-three Herkimer County American Legion Tournament Finals for its ninth straight championship.

After each team scored two runs in the first inning, Little Falls went ahead 3-2 in the second on a run-scoring error. But Ilion came back with two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and five in the seventh to put the game away.

Korey Perkins led Ilion's offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. John LeClair went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Jeff Eysaman went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Cameron DeMayo was the beneficiary of the support on the mound, allowing four runs (two earned) in seven innings on five hits and one walk and striking out six. He also went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Ilion, which has won 14 of the last 16 Herkimer County tournament championships overall, once again advances to the District V Tournament at DeLutis Field in Rome. Play begins next Wednesday.
