Oriskany Falls In Regional Playoffs.

By Sports WKTV

The Oriskany baseball team overcame one five-run deficit against Section IV's Deposit but could not overcome a second, losing to the Lumberjacks 10-5 in the first round of the Class D state playoffs.

Deposit took a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to some spotty Redskins defense, and increased it to 5-0 in the third on a run-scoring groundout. But after cutting the deficit to 5-2 with a double, an error, a balk, and an infield single in the top of the fourth, Oriskany's bats came alive in the fifth. After starting the inning with a groundout and a strikeout, the Redskins had five consecutive batters reach base on an error and four straight hits by Brian Weigel, Joziah Hilkey, Mike Sreca, and Marcello Ciotti, driving in three runs to tie the game at 5-5.

The tie did not last long, though, as Deposit came back with a five-spot in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded triple by Anthony Peralta.

Oriskany finishes the season 13-9.
