Brian Sandler signs off of NEWSChannel 2

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Brian Sandler, the weekend sports anchor and Sports Express co-anchor, anchored his final sportscast on NEWSChannel 2 Friday night after more than five years at the station. Brian began his broadcasting career at NEWSChannel 2 in 2004.

Brian has anchored the Saturday and Sunday sportscasts at 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. along with filing sports reports on weekdays. On Fridays, he co-anchored Sports Express along with Sports Director Jason Powles. Behind the scenes, Brian produced his sportscasts and shot his own sports highlights at games all across the area.

Brian will take on a similar position in the sports department for cable channel News 10 Now based in Syracuse. He will return to the land of the "Orange" as Brian is a 2004 graduate of Syracuse University.

Brian has recounted some of his favorite moments to cover in a farewell letter to viewers. His top two favorites were Westmoreland vs. Sidney in the 2006 state Class C football quarterfinals and Hamilton boys soccer coming back from a 3-0 deficit with 18 minutes left against top-ranked defending champion Chazy in the 2008 state Class D championship and winning in overtime.

On his final night at NEWSChannel 2, Brian wished to thank the viewers in Central New York, his colleagues on Smith Hill, and the local athletic departments, coaches, athletes and staffers that he has worked with.

Brian's colleagues wish him well in the future and thank him for his five years here in Utica. We know we will be able to see him a few channels up the dial.

A replacement for Brian has not yet been announced.
