Yankees lead series 2-1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The New York Yankees swatted three home runs to win a pivotal Game 3 by scoring five unanswered runs and rally for an 8-5 win over Philadelphia to take a 2-1 series lead in a
game that featured the first reversal of an umpire's call on replay in World Series history.

The Yanks trailed 3-0 before their bats came alive. They got two back
on a disputed fourth-inning home run by Alex Rodriguez for his first hit of the World Series. They went ahead with three more in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single by pitcher Andy Pettitte and a two-run double by Johnny Damon. Nick Swisher added a solo homer in the sixth and Hideki Matsui delivered a pinch homer in the eighth.

Rodriguez hit his disputed two-run home run in the top of the fourth. At first, it was ruled a double. But after Joe Girardi appealed, the umpires went to instant replay and it was ruled a home run that hit a TV camera that was set up above the right field wall. It's A-Rod's sixth homer of this postseason, tying Bernie Williams for the Yankee postseason record. It's the first time that instant replay has been used to overturn a call in the postseason since replay has been in use the past two seasons.

The Yanks knocked out Cole Hamels in the fifth. He lasted four and a-third innings, allowing five runs on five hits. J.A. Happ relieved in the fifth and gave up a homer in the sixth. Jorge Posada added a run-scoring single in the seventh to make it 7-4.

Jayson Werth has hit two solo homers for the Phils. Both came off Pettitte, the winning pitcher who allowed four runs on five hits and struck out seven in six innings. Joba Chamberlain and Damaso Marte each pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Phil Hughes gave up a solo homer to Carlos Ruiz in the ninth. Mariano Rivera got the final two outs for his 11th career World Series save.

Game 4 is Sunday night in Philadelphia. CC Sabathia goes for the Yanks against Joe Blanton.
