ALTENBERG, GERMANY (WKTV) - Erin Hamlin is going to Vancouver! The Remsen native finished fifth at the third leg of the Viessman Luge World Cup in Altenberg, Germany on Sunday. As a result, she has qualified for the U.S. Olympic team and will race in Vancouver at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Erin was 12th after her first run but vaulted up to fourth after her second run. Officials averaged her times and factored in how the other competitors finished giving her fifth place overall. The Germans took first through fourth with Tatjana Hufner winning the event.

Erin will now go to Lillehammer, Norway next weekend for the fourth leg of the World Cup. She will then travel back to the U.S. returning on December 17th. Team USA has a scheduled appearance on The Today Show on December 18th tentatively set for the 8:30 a.m. half hour. Following that, they have a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. at the West Bank Cafe.

The team then breaks for the Christmas holiday before returning to work on December 27th. They still have four legs of the World Cup left before going to Vancouver for the Winter Games.

This is Erin's second appearance on an Olympic team. She finished 12th in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy.
