NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Erin Hamlin and the rest of the Olympic luge team got some national attention Friday morning on the Today Show.
Surrounded by her teammates, Hamlin was front and center for the world to see - spreading the news about the Olympic Luge Team and the 2010 Vancouver games.
"People are just so pumped about the games, and that is awesome to see," Hamlin said following Friday's appearance. "It is awesome for everyone."
People from all over wanted some time with Hamlin, including the folks from Remsen who traveled to New York with signs in hand. One woman from Cleveland asked for Hamlin's autograph after the morning show. Even Today Show Co-Host Anne Curry had some words of encouragement for Hamlin, and the team.
"Just go win a gold medal," Curry said when talking one-on-one with the team following their 9:25 a.m. segment.
The 23 year-old Remsen native says growing up in the small town, she never envisioned her life would turn out the way it has. As her career continues to take off, Hamlin said she is enjoying the ride that is going about as fast as a trip down the luge.
"I have experienced so much and it's made me a very well rounded person," Hamlin said. "I was cultured very young and it's something I will always be grateful for."
Hamlin is one of the more recognizable names on the luge team because of her recent success. In the past year, she has won a World Championship, won a medal in the World Cup, and qualified for her second Olympics. Despite all that, Hamlin believes she could be even better.
"There is still a lot I can work on and stuff I can do to hopefully keep improving," she said. "So, I am going to focus on what I need to do to hopefully have those good things happen."
Following Friday's appearance, it will be back to work for the luge team, who still has four more events before the Olympic games begin in February.
